Calluses are thickening of the skin from a specific area due to repeated pressure. They are extremely uncomfortable since your body grows an extra layer of skin over the affected area to protect it from irritants.
They do not hurt and mostly appear due to excessive pressure and rubbing, especially when you are walking barefoot or wearing tight-fitting shoes, playing instruments, and working with your hands. Common locations for calluses include fingertips, palms and feet.
A person can easily get rid of calluses through home remedies, regular exfoliation and moisturising. Refrain from using sharp objects that can injure your skin and lead to bleeding and skin infections.
Calluses are not a medical problem, and it can be easily cured if you do not like your skin with it. Here are some tips that will help you get rid of calluses-
Use Epsom Salt-
Epsom salt is regarded as a great exfoliator. The fine grains of Epsom salt dissolves in water and soothes the skin. Add two to three tablespoon of Epsom salt in warm water and dip the infected callus area. It will soften the skin, and you can peel it off with foot filer.
Use Pumice Stone-
Pumice stones are light and porous, which exfoliates callus and dead skin. You can easily use a pumice stone on areas that cannot be seen, such as feet and elbows.
Once your skin becomes soft after thoroughly soaking it in Epsom salt water, you can rub pumice stone in circular side to side motion. Do it regularly to get it rid of callus.
If you have a busy schedule and cannot devote time to a skincare routine, then it is recommended to use exfoliating creams since they contain salicylic acid, urea, or ammonium lactate that can enhance the process. Regularly applying these creams can soften the skin and reduces calluses.
You can buy a callus treatment kit that includes scrapers, patches and exfoliating moisturizers. All you have to do is just spare 15 minutes from your time to get rid of calluses.
Use Apple Cider Vinegar-
Apple cider vinegar can soften the skin and remove callus because it has the right composition of acid. Mix one part of apple cider vinegar with four parts of water and soak your skin for twenty to thirty minutes. Later rinse it gently with the soap, doing so will remove the first layer of dead cells and callus.
Apply Tea Tree Oil-
Tea tree oil is very effective in treating skin related problems due to its antifungal, antibacterial and antiseptic properties. Adding two to three drops of oil in warm water can work wonders. Make sure to soak the infected area for not more than fifteen minutes because the oil is strong and can damage your skin if exposed for a longer time.
If you have a busy schedule and cannot rely on these treatments or if your callus is severe then you must take help from a professional who can provide you with treatments that will work on your skin.
